Gran Canaria is an island of contrasts
At one end of the scale, there are the empty, rolling sand dunes
and at the other, lively resorts where the nightlife continues apace until dawn.

It´s hardly surprising that the southern curve of the island
is so popular with holidaymakers.
One long golden, sandy beach merges into the next, whilst the vast,
undulating dunes of Maspalomas are a constant reminder that
Africa and the Sahara are not too far away.

Puerto Rico with its stylish yachting marina , is top of the list for watersports.
Playa del Ingles, with its bustling promenade and cosmopolitan commercial centre ,
has plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to tempt you away from the beach.

If you are seeking a little more solitude, lose yourself in the sand dunes of Maspalomas.
Away from the beaches, the landscape of Gran Canaria is very different and strangely beautiful.
Its worth a trip inland to the mountainous core of the island where you will find the volcanic peak
Pico de las Nieves, and rocky slopes give way to pine forests and valleys of banana plantations.

Las Palmas is the island capital and its a mecca for shopping whether you want your holiday souvenirs to

include brand-name electronics, clothes or handwoven baskets youll be spoilt for choice!
After dark , you ll have an abundance of bars and nightclubs to choose from.
Playa del Ingles is buzzing well into the small hours and attracts couples and groups from all over Europe.
For relaxed evenings lingering over a meal and a glass of wine, San Agustin and Bahia Feliz have a more family atmosphere.
